Cornouaille, the kingdom and then the duchy of medieval Brittany, extended far to the north and west of Quimper. The area mentioned here is limited to the coast as far as the Pointe du Raz. In addition to its countless ports, such as bDouarnenez and Audierne, its rocky coast and wide bays, the countryside is dotted with hamlets of whitewashed houses, typical towns such as Locronan, and chapels such as Notre-Dame-de-Tronoën. The bird sanctuary of Cap Sizun is also worth a mention, as is the capital of the Bigouden: Pont-l'Abbé.
