Spiritual home of the media and sometimes referred to as "the cathedral of Fleet St", St Bride's Church is dedicated to Brigid of Kildare, one of the patron saints of Ireland. The church's famous white belfry, the highest bell tower designed by Wren (69m), is crowned by four octagonal storeys topped by a slender obelisk which is in turn crowned by a weather vane. After a fire in 1940, only the shell of the church and the bell tower survived. The crypt and foundations of a church thought to date from Saxon times were discovered during reconstruction of the church.
