The city's economic boom at the end of the 19C meant the development of new districts and a remodelling of the historic centre. Some extraordinary buildings went up. The Central Market and the Northern Station are representative of the prevailing Modernist style: metal frames, large glazed window bays, vast central cupolas, ceramic friezes... There are also neo-Classical and eclectic buildings (Calle San Vicente Márti), and Art Deco ones like Casa Ferrer (calle Cirilo Amorós).
