The Tarraco Circus was built at the time of Emperor Domitian, from 81 to 96, and was used for chariot races. Its unusual location, within the ramparts, divided the city in two: the official public section in the upper district and the residential area in the lower district. It is difficult to get an idea of the circus's proportions in Roman times because of the large number of modern constructions that obscure the view, but the arena probably measured 325m in length and was 115m wide.
