Built in 1893, these 12 rice storehouses are dotted along the banks of the Niida River, shaded by tall zelcova. Still in use today, three of them have been converted. The first is now the Historic Museum and Documentation Centre of Rice growing. At N° 11, Hana no Yakata has been turned into a Museum of History and Culture of Sakata, with dolls and puppets by Tsujimura Jusaburo. Finally, N° 12, Sachi no Yakata, is home to a tourist office and a shop selling local produce
