This museum's prehistory section has everyday items from the Neolithic period found in the Danube Valley. The Antiquity collection covers the period prior to the arrival of the Bulgars and has objects relating to the Thracian and Roman periods. Early Bulgar culture is represented by weapons and the world's oldest Cyrillic writing. The jewel of the museum is the Borino Thracian hoard comprising six silver objects (a vase and five drinking vessels), two of which refer to King Kotys (383-360 BC).
