This church was built in 1638 by a Jesuit to house a miraculous crucifix (in a fit of rage an inhabitant of Rijeka threw a stone at the crucifix after a bad streak of gambling luck and the crucifix began to bleed). The architect is said to have drawn his inspiration from the Church of Salute in Venice. Whatever the case, its rotunda shape is unique in Croatia and quite visible despite the later addition of a portico. The interior is an ode to the extravagant Baroque style.
