The World Trade Center memorial is the work of architect Michael Arad. It features twin 30ft/9m-deep memorial pools, by the side of which run waterfalls, Reflecting the Absence. They are surrounded by a parapet on which the names of the victims of September 11, 2001 are engraved in bronze. Amid the hundreds of white oak trees planted in the park is a pear tree, saved from the ruins and nurtured, which now stands proudly on its original spot, symbolizing hope and renewal.
