Commissioned by Solomon R. Guggenheim and his wife Irene Rothschild, the building was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright to house the couple's collection of modern art. Inaugurated in 1956, the structure itself is a masterpiece with a spectacular main gallery and famous 400m-long spiral ramp. The collections (currently over 6 000 pieces) are displayed in rotation: Impressionist, post-Impressionist, Dada, Surrealist, unique Kandinsky collection, Thannhauser and so on...
