The eastern districts of Kastoria provide an opportunity to discover the archondika, half-timbered and gabled mansions dating from the 17 and 19C built by rich local furriers. That of Nerantzis Aïvazis, now the Folklore Museum is open to the public and provides a fascinating insight into the 17C Macedonian lifestyle. The Emanouil mansion, now the Costume Museum, also illustrates a fine example of interior architecture.
