The modern city stretches out beyond Galata Bridge. The Beyoglu district, the heart of intellectualism in the 19C, has retained a slightly outdated feel compared to the ultra-modern Levent. It is enjoying a new lease of life, thanks to Istanbul's "movida", a youthful and creative movement, keen to preserve the district's authenticity. Beyoglu is also the haunt of the city's night owls.
