The Historical Museum of Crete offers an opportunity to get acquainted with the island's culture and history: 17 centuries presented chronologically and introduced by an interesting model of Heraklion. The museum's collection includes the only two works by El Greco in Crete: Baptism of Christ (1567) and View of Mount Sinai and St Catherine's Monastery (1570), the Crete-born writer Nikos Kazantzakis, and, lastly, a small ethnography section.
