The Heraklion Archaeology Museum has an extraordinary collection of objects discovered on Crete's Minoan sites, and proves to be an excellent introduction to a visit here. There are some real masterpieces, revealing art of a great finesse. Don't miss the frescoes, the libation vase in the shape of a bull's head and the Snake Goddesses of Knossos, the Kamares-style vases, the Phaistos disk, the famous golden bee pendant found at Malia etc.
