Forming a spectacular landscape along the Route de la Trace, the six peaks - the Pitons du Carbet - owe their remarkable shape to their volcanic origin. Piton Lacroix (1 196m) commands a splendid view. The second highest point after Mt Pelee, Piton Lacroix offers a hike (the Trace des Pitons) that only experienced hikers should attempt, preferably with a guide. Nature lovers will be enchanted by the exceptional diversity of the lush vegetation: epiphytes, orchids, begonias, magnolias etc.
