This is the main shopping street in Brest, which was pedestrianised with the arrival of the tramline. It commands a fine prospect over the harbour. The street is named after the ambassadors of the King of Siam, who landed in Brest on their way to visit the court of Louis XIV. Their brief presence dazzled the locals so much that they renamed the street in their honour. The unusual urban cable car (France's first) connects the bottom of rue de Siam to the Plateau des Capucins on the other bank of the Penfeld in 3min.
