These islands of dark red porphyry off the coast of the Parata headland stand guard at the entrance to the bay of Ajaccio. Grand Sanguinaire is the farthest island from the bay and also the largest of the four islets which make up this archipelago. Enjoy a splendid view across the Gulf of Ajaccio from the tip of the island or the lighthouse that stands on it. The four islets are just the sort of image that comes to mind when we think of Corsica, with their steep cliffs plunging into the crystal-clear sea.
