A circular boulevard marking the boundary of the Innere Stadt (inner city), the Ring symbolises the entry of Vienna into the modern era in the 19C. Today, it remains the backbone of the city, home to institutions, major cultural sights, cafés and magnificent gardens. Trams, motorists in a hurry, and numerous cyclists and pedestrians heading off to work are all part of the fabric of this imperial scene which has remained unchanged since it was first built.
