Built in 1387, at the dawn of the Christian era in the country, St John's Church was already well established when the university was founded but took on its Baroque appearance in the 18C. Inside, the ten remaining altars from an original 18C set of 22 form a rich ensemble, complex yet harmonious, and unique in this part of Europe, while the sun illuminates the stained-glass windows designed in Paris and Riga. At 68m, its bell tower is the tallest in the old town.
