The Castillo de los Fajardo was built in the 16C by Italian artists at the request of the first Marquis of Vélez. This building hardly looks like a fortress - it has, for example, large terraces commanding splendid views, and numerous bays in the high walls that contrast with the powerful 25m-high keep. Some of the decorative features (wooden friezes, marble) have been taken from the site to be displayed in museums.
