The Hackenberg is the largest fortification along the Maginot Line, able to shelter 1,200 men. Its 2 entrance blocks, 17 combat blocks, massive "anti-blast" door, central station with its lofty arches, miles of galleries and huge power plant can be toured on a tourist train. Reconstructions of the kitchens, infirmary and firing command post add to the atmosphere. The museum also exhibits weaponry and uniforms from units engaged in the battle for France.
