The road from Avanos to Urgüp crosses a huge plateau dotted with cone-shaped mounds and stone dunes which extend as far as the eye can see, forming a strange desert coloured in pastel tones by the sun. On the right of the road lies the Devrent Valley (Devrent Vadisi), an unusual site which has never been inhabited and where the sculpted rocks have been shaped by erosion alone. The tufa rocks take on various shapes and forms, which in the evening are transformed into magical figures in the breathtaking sunsets.
