Melrose House, all in pink, stands across from Brugers Park. This fine looking house blends various architectural styles, a feature of the late Victorian era. Restored and fitted out for the most part with the original furniture and utensils, it reflects the life of a high society family of British origin at the end of the 19C. Melrose House was the headquarters for British forces during the Boer War - the peace treaty was signed in the dining room on 31 May 1902.
