Built between 1836 and 1839, the Old School is proud of having counted among its teachers Petko R Slavejkov, one of the founders of secular education in Bulgaria. The building presents various exhibitions (old clocks, school library, carved wood, works by local artists). However, its main interest lies in the Dimitar Kazakov-Neron gallery, based on a bequest to the city by the artist himself (1933-92). The gallery offers a fairly comprehensive account of this original artist's production, and displays carved-wood works by his brother Nikola.
