Standing in the centre of the square, the Market Cross was erected in 958, when the town was granted the right to hold a market, and later restored in the 18C. The fountain, decorated with figures depicting the Cardinal Virtues, dates from the 16C. From the square, you can admire monuments charting 15 centuries of the town's history: the Porta Nigra, the Gothic Church of St Gangolf and half-timbered houses from both the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
