This central square in front of the cathedral is surrounded by monuments evocative of the Middle Ages. Note the Gothic Palazzo dei Priori, the former seat of the Podesta, dominated by a curious trapezoid tower; the Palazzo del Capitano e della Giustizia, also from the 13C, decorated with bays with small columns; and the Palazzo del Popolo (town hall), dating from 1213, which makes it one of the oldest in Italy. The latter houses the town's main museum.
