Rue Conchette is part of a former suburb tacked onto Thiers in the 15C, when the third surrounding wall was built. This was the town's wealthy district and still boasts fine houses and interior courtyards - properties of the merchant class of the 16C and 17C (master cardmakers, papetiers etc), who earned Thiers its Europe-wide reputation as a place of trade. At no 1, the Cité de Couteliers is dedicated to the promotion of cutlery-making.
