The ruins of the former convent of Santo Domingo de Guzmán (16C) stand majestically in the village de Tecpatán, reclaimed by large-scale restorations. This Dominican sanctuary is a blend of different styles, from Mudéjar (the tower) to Gothic (the façade), as well as Renaissance (the cloister). A leading example of religious buildings from the colonial period and of the power of the Dominicans, who came to evangelise the Zoque Indians.
