On entering the huge church (11C) of the Monastery of Hosias Loukas, you firstly come upon the narthex and an initial group of mosaics. You can only marvel at the extraordinary mosaics on a gold background embellishing the vaulting, tympanums and pilasters, notably the scenes depicting the Passion of Christ. Above the door, there is a hieratic Christ bearing a gospel. In the dome, note the majestic Christ Pantocrator.
