If there is one place that testifies to the pugnacity of the people of Martinique to recover from the terrible disaster of 1902, it is the Le Mouillage quarter. Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Cathedral was renovated 20 years after the eruption, and an exact replica of the Bourse de Commerce, which became the Heritage House, was built on Place Bertin. This square is the shopping heart of the neighbourhood and also hosts the market. A stroll along the seashore promenade and in the narrow lanes that crisscross the district is quite delightful.
