A few metres from the Saint-Leu roundabout is the church, Église Notre-Dame-de-la-Salette, which was built in haste on the cliff side in 1859 as a cholera epidemic spread over the island. The disease is said to have stopped at the village gates. Every year a great pilgrimage commemorates this "miracle", on 19 September. Although of no great architectural interest, it is a very lively place of worship where many islanders come to pray.
