The old town stretches westward from the cathedral to the Altpörtel, a fine 12C-13C gateway tower. Maximialianstrasse is a lively street whose crowning glory is the town hall. At the corner of Korngasse stands the Alte Münze (Old Mint) built in 1748. Its name is derived from the coin minters' guildhall, which stood on this spot in the Middle Ages.
