A real symbol of the southern Mâcon region, the Rock of Solutré can be seen from all over Bresse. This superb limestone escarpment (altitude 495m), with its slim silhouette and sphinx-like profile, is one of France's most famous prehistoric sites. This is where a particular kind of stone tool was first discovered (18 000 to 15 000 BC), hence its being named after the site. In 2013, it was been designated a "Grand Site de France". It is easy to climb and the view is superb.
