Smoljan's History Museum illustrates extremely rich collections, through a modern presentation. The archaeological section is devoted to prehistory (pottery, metal tools...), to the region's Thracian necropolis (bronze oil lamp) and to the upper medieval period (stone slabs carved with crosses). The stunning ethnographic section displays costumes, silver jewellery, trousseaux, wedding clogs, shepherds' staffs, wool carpets, utensils made of wood and metal, traditional kukeri (characters of Bulgarian folk culture) and musical instruments.
