This fine 13C Almohad tower looking over the River Guadalquivir was once part of the city's defensive system. Located at the end of the wall that once bordered the river, it was used in conjunction with a tower on the opposite bank to close off the river with chains. It later became a gold warehouse, but this is not thought to be the origin of its name. It is now home to the Maritime Museum (Museo Naval), which exhibits models, paintings and engravings relating to the maritime world.
