This theatre was one of the largest in the Ancient world. Sadly, all that remains of its stage wall, which was as richly decorated as the façade of the library of Celsius, is the system of vaults that supported the stage. The cavea, which forms a semi-circle 154m in diameter, could accommodate 24,000 spectators. From the top tier, splendid views encompass the town and the contours of the ancient port, a splash of greenery at the end of the Arcadian Way.
