Schwerin Castle, a Gothic Revival construction with Gothic and Baroque features, was built between 1845 and 1857 as the residence of the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, it is one of the most important 19C civic buildings in Germany. Numerous objets d'art, German porcelain and 18C and 19C paintings are displayed. The chapel (1560-63) has Tuscan columns to support its vault and Renaissance tribunes.
