At the first hint of sunshine, the inhabitants of The Hague head to this beach to enjoy its many attractions - swimming, kitesurfing or simply eating in one the many beach restaurants. Popular since the early 19C, the beach has seen its number of visitors grow and the construction of many new hotels. The most emblematic of these is the Grand Kurhaus hotel (1885), which still dominates the beach. Other attractions include the Circustheater (1904), cinema, casino, and the Sea Life Schevenigen, which is particularly popular with children.
