Some 5mi/8km of trails meander across 26ha/65 acres of wooded canyons, open meadows and high ridges in this pleasant setting. More than 1 000 species of native California plants grow here, including redwoods, cacti and rare Channel Island varieties. Also visible in the gardens are the traces of an old aqueduct and dam which controlled the supply of water to this fertile region in the early 19C, shortly after the establishment of the mission.
