San Diego's tallest building, this tapered, 34-story office tower (1991) rises to a star-shaped pinnacle above walls of glass and white granite. Adjoining, a crescent-shaped glass-and-steel canopy shelters a trolley station and connects the tower to the 10,000sq-ft downtown branch of the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego (619-234-1001; www.mcasd.org), which mounts traveling shows and changing exhibits of works from the permanent collection of its La Jolla-based counterpart.
