Looking towards the Turkish coast from which it is separated by a mere 2km of sea, Samos is renowned worldwide for its sweet and syrupy muscat wine. It boasts a variety of landscapes: high hills, plains, chalk cliffs, pebble inlets and beaches. It also has interesting archaeological remains, such as the tunnel of Eupalinos (northwest of Pythagoria) and the Temple of Hera, one of the oldest in Greece.
