Consecrated in 1707, the collegiate church (Kollegienkirche) by Fischer von Erlach dominates the square. This grandiose and monumental Baroque church is seen as one of the architect's finest works. As the name suggests, the church was affiliated to the university founded by the Benedictines in 1623. The other side of the square is a pretty mix of colourful façades. Most of these houses have little passages and inner courtyards leading to Getreidegasse.
