Since Margrethe I, 38 Danish monarchs have been buried in the cathedral, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cathedral was built between 1170 and the 14C, and is both Romanesque and Early Gothic in style. The whitewashed vaulting inside increases the impression of space and height. Don't miss the richly carved Gothic choir stalls, the gilded altarpiece made in Antwerp in the 16C, or the white marble sarcophagus of Queen Margrethe. Other monarchs lie buried in side chapels.
