Housed in a magnificent 17C villa, the Borghese gallery is home to a superlative collection of paintings and sculpture amassed by avid art-lover Cardinal Scipione Borghese. Among the masterpieces on the ground floor are several works by Bernini, each more stunning than the other. Also note the statue of Pauline Bonaparte by Canova and the canvases by Caravaggio, not to mention works by Raphael, Correggio, Domenichino, Carrachi, Bellini, Titian, Lucas Cranach and Veronese.
