Responsible for defending against the Turkish threat (1306), the Knights Hospitaller lived in this fortified part of the city called Collachium. A visit to the Palati Megalon Magistron (Palace of the Grand Masters), in the northwest corner of the ramparts, is a must-see, for the site itself, as well as for the artefacts it contains. Also worth seeing: Ipoton - the Street of the Knights -, a medieval street lined with "inns" (15C-16C Gothic buildings in which the knights lived).
