The two Prespa Lakes (Límnes Préspes) are located on the border of Greece, Albania and North Macedonia, 850m above sea level: Mikri Prespa or Little Prespa and Megali Préspa or Great Prespa. This remote region of untamed and austere beauty, where a handful of fishermen and shepherds maintain a semblance of human presence, was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2012. It is home to a remarkable biotope: 1 500 species of plant and 260 species of birds.
