La Castagniccia is bordered by the narrow Golo Valley to the north, the central valley of Corte to the west, Costa Verde to the east, Bozio to the south, and forms a balcony on the eastern plain. Monte San Petrone (1 767m altitude) is a resounding illustration of the mountainous character of this region, which is carpeted with dense sweet chestnut groves (as its name suggests) and dotted with hamlets resembling fortresses. Don't miss the unspoilt site of the Couvent d'Alesani or the frescoes in the San Quilico de Cambia chapel.
