This rich museum, built on the site of the old Abbey of Sainte-Croix, has held three sections since 1974, recently supplemented by collections from establishments that have closed. The regional archaeology collection houses exhibits from the Palaeolithic to the Middle Ages. The Fine Arts section ranges from older paintings to 20C artistic movements. Poitiers is illustrated by artwork such as the polychrome wood Grand'Goule, while the Sculpture section is home to a superb collection of works by Rodin and Camille Claudel.
