On the left bank of the Arno, towards the sea, this Romanesque basilica in golden stone is located on an old quay of the Roman port of Pisa, at the exact spot where St Peter set foot in Italy. Notice the Lombard arcadings in the chevet, decorated with lozenges and alternating circles and the frieze of ceramic bowls, characteristic of the Pisa region, which runs along on high on the north side.
