Montparnasse is no longer the home of the Parisian intelligentsia... Pancake houses and restaurant franchises have done away with famous cafes of the Bohemian era. However, a few artists' studios remain, hidden in flower-decked gardens or transformed into museums. Today the district is a beacon for its cinemas and crêperies, opened by the numerous Bretons established here, all dominated by the tower that transformed the district in the 1960s.
