The Rue du Faubourg-St-Antoine was laid out over the former street that linked the Bastille fortress to St Antoine Abbey (on the site of St Antoine Hospital). Its historic passageways (Bel-Air, l'Étoile d'Or, les Trois-Frères, l'Ours...) and inner courtyards are still home to the district's carpenters and cabinetmakers, hence the wealth of furniture shops stretching to Place de la Nation. Also admire the pretty Trogneux fountain on the corner of Rue de Charonne.
